A first look at this work of William Burns may give the impression that the artist has put together a group random shapes and colours. However, if we look at the work again with reference to the words of French artist Paul Cezanne (1839 - 1906) who said he endeavoured to "treat nature by the cylinder, the sphere, the cone," the work shows the essence of Cezanne's theory. Naturally occurring forms were broken down to the essence of these three shapes. William Burns like many other artists has reflected Cezanne's theories within his art. The work is oil on board.
