James Usher & Cunningham acquired the Cowgate Brewery in Campbell's Close, Canongate, Edinburgh in 1831 and traded as Usher & Co from 1839 until 1843 when it became J & T Usher. The company moved to the Park Brewery in St Leonard's Street in 1860 and Thomas Usher & Son was registered as a limited liability company in 1895 to acquire the business. In 1959, the company was taken over by Vaux & Associated Breweries Ltd of Sunderland and in 1972 its name changed to Usher's Brewery Ltd. Lorimer's Brewery Ltd operated the Park Brewery from 1976 until it was acquired by Allied Brewers of London in 1980. In 1981, Usher's Brewery went into liquidation and the Park Brewery ceased brewing.
