T & J Bernard began brewing at the Edinburgh Brewery at North Back Canongate in 1840. In 1888, after the original site became too small, a new Edinburgh Brewery was opened in Slateford Road. The company was taken over by Scottish Brewers Ltd in 1960 and ceased trading.
