The business of William Younger is said to date back to 1749 when William Younger ! set up a brewery in Kirkgate, Leith. However it was his wife Grizel who ran her deceased second husband's brewery and along with her sons, developed the firm of William Younger & Co. The business expanded to acquire many other premises over the years and in 1931 the company merged with William McEwan & Co Ltd. The Holyrood Brewery Complex was closed in 1986.
