About the artist
Name
Kunisada II
Biography
Kunisada II (Utagawa Kunisada II) was the pupil and son in law of Kunisada I (Toyokuni III). After his marriage in 1846, he signed his work Kunisada (Baichoro Kunisada) using the 'go' of his master. Prior to this date he used the names Baido Kunimasa or Kunimasa III. Kunisada II produced a number of series inspired by the 'Tale of Genji' and he was also known for his bijin-ga (pictures of beauties), theatre prints and landscape prints. His figurative work closely imitated the style of his teacher, Kunisada I.
