Title
Boys playing in playground at Clovenstone, Wester Hailes
Description
Four boys are playing in an adventure playground. The two younger boys have climbed onto a wooden structure and one of them is sitting whilst the other stands. The two older boys are on the ground playing football. The foundations of the structures are visible where the grass and earth has been worn away. Blocks of flats of varying heights are visible in the distance.

This picture shows the playground created by local residents at Clovenstone. The flats on the left of the picture are at Clovenstone Gardens and the low-rise building behind the park is Clovenstone Primary School.
In 1982 there were four adventure playgrounds in Wester Hailes. In 1977 the Adventure Playground ('The Venchie') was slowly being developed by the tenants of Murrayburn. A grant was obtained in 1980 for four playworkers and a supervisor to work at Venchie. A group was formed the same year to promote Hailes Park Adventure Playground ('Quarry Venchie') by people from Hailesland, Dumbryden, Kingsknowe and Longstone. In 1980 Calders Playground was completed and in 1981 a Playground was built at Clovenstone. Wester Hailes Play Forum was formed in 1981 to manage all four adventure playgrounds and to coordinate any activities.
