Malloch's Close - north side of Canongate - mostly demolished
Description
The view looks down a narrow alley between rows of houses. On either side there are stone steps leading to entrances at first floor level. On one side there are children playing with dolls at the top of the stairs. Below them, two women are talking and a man holding a stick leans on the steps. At the bottom of the steps opposite a woman who is barefoot stands and holds a broom.

Malloch's Close in the Canongate was named after three Mallochs who owned the tenement on this site before 1750.
The Canongate is the section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile running from the junction with Jeffrey Street to a roundabout almost immediately outside Holyrood Palace.
