Description
Two women stand in a narrow alleyway talking, while behind them two children play. The alleyway is lined with stone buildings, many of which have wooden additions built out over the close. The road continues away through an arch and downhill.

Print dated: 2nd July 1853. Like most of Edinburgh's closes, Fountain Close changed its named throughout the centuries. For example, in 1635 it was known as John Barton's Close.
