Excerpt from page - Lindsays Land, Bristo Street - "To be sold that large tenement called Lindsays Land and situated at the entry to Mr Peddies Meeting House on the east side of Bristo Street consisting of four stories and garrets together with a range of commodious cellars in the back ground possessed by several tenants and yielding £64.6s - of yearly rent". Edinburgh Evening Courant Jan 12 1793.

This is a page from the book 'Origin, nomenclature and location of various houses and streets in Edinburgh' by John Smith.
Bristo Street ran from Chapel Street to the present day Bristo Place, previously its southernmost section. The section of the street from Bristo Place to Chapel Street was destroyed in the development of Bristo Square in 1982.
