Excerpt from page "Gayfield House - To be sold the house and enclosures of Gayfield situated between the Water of Leith and Broughton Turnpike - The house was built within these twelve years and is handsomely finished. The grounds which consist of about six acres in old grass. These held of Heriot's Hospital for payment of a feu duty of two bolls of barley per acre. The five acres and a small dwelling house - which affords access by an avenue by Leith Walk. Apply to James Syme. W.S." E.E.C Feb 22nd 1775.
