Page 36 from John Smith's Houses and Streets in Edinburgh
Description
Excerpt from page "Edinburgh Improvements 1815 - At no period perhaps was ever the city of Edinburgh in the progress of such rapid improvements as it is at present. It is but within these very few years that the entrances to the town from Glasgow from Dalkeith and we may add from Leith were in a safe state being in winter time nearly impossible, now these roads are not only completely paved, but altered so as to make the different approaches direct and of a width corresponding with the consequences of a great city".
