Description
Excerpt from page "To the Editor of the Courant Edinburgh 6th July 1810.
Sir, It is my lot to reside in a part of this town called by the name of St James Square - a very excellent name, but one to my misfortune so highly esteemed by your Edinburgh builders, that they have bestowed it upon no fewer than six different streets and lanes, all lying within a stones throw east of each other. I can stand Sir, at my front door and view St James Square, St James Street, two North St James Street, South St James Street, East St James Street and West St James Street, besides St James Place and St James Lane, and with some industry, I do not doubt that a sharper sighted person than myself might discover other places bearing the same name.........." Edinburgh Evening Courant 6th July 1810.
