Excerpt from page - "Pitt Statue 1833 - Workmen began on Tuesday to enclose a space of ground in the centre of George Street at the head of Frederick Street for the purpose of erecting a statue to the Right Honourable William Pitt. E.E.C June 13 1833.........Two other large blocks of stone from Craigleith Quarry have been deposited at the site of the Pitt statue in George Street . One arriving on Friday afternoon which weighed in its rough state about eighteen tons and was drawn to its destination by a team of sixteen horses....." Edinburgh Evening Courant July 13 1833.

The Statue of William Pitt the younger, stands at the junction of George Street and Frederick Street.
He was Britian's youngest Prime Minister from 1783 until 1801 during King George III's reign.
