35. St Andrew Square

The Royal Bank of Scotland premises at 35 St Andrew Square were designed by Sir William Chambers and built in 1771 as a house for Sir Lawrence Dundas. James Craig had intended the site to be occupied by a church, mirroring the one on the west side of Charlotte Square, but Dundas foiled these plans. The building was subsequently occupied by the Excise Office from 1794 and the Royal Bank of Scotland from 1825.
