Records mention Piershill as far back as 1500 as being a separate property within Restalrig. Piershill Barracks was built here in 1794 and was home to various regiments including the 6th Inniskillin Dragoon Guards and the 17th Lancers. The barracks were demolished in 1938 to build council housing at East and West Piershill Squares. This followed an expansion of the area in the early twentieth century with the construction of Piershill Place and Terrace.
