Title
Firth of Forth and Edinburgh from Aberdour, Fifeshire
Description
View of a castle nestled amongst many trees, near to a town consisting of numerous houses and cottages. A three-arched, stone road bridge crosses a river which leads towards the settlement. A small church sits on the corner of the road. Behind the castle sits a great span of water, which separates the town from Edinburgh. Arthur's seat is clearly visible to the left of Edinburgh castle.

Item is dated 9th June 1804. Aberdour was an important trading town. The castle dates back to the 13th century, but has since undergone many changes. Today, only the 17th century wing remains roofed. It is possible that the small church depicted in the drawing is that of St. Fillan's, which was built in the 12th century.
