The title on the watercolour is: 'Oakwood Tower. - Bohill - Elrick water. Selkirkshire - Sep 1804.'
The Ettrick Water runs for 12 miles through the Ettrick Valley before it meets the River Yarrow. It was part of the lands of the Bowhill Estate owned by the Duke of Buccleuch. Oakwood Tower (also known as Aikwood Tower) was built in 1535 and was the home of the Scott Family. It became uninhabited during the 18th Century. In 1992 it was restored by Lord David Steel.
Item is dated September 1804.
