James Burnet was the last captain of the Town Guard. He died in 1814 and was never replaced; already the newly founded Police was taking over many of the Guard's responsibilities. The Guard was finally disbanded in 1817.
Despite his size, Burnet successfully completed the challenge to run up Arthur's Seat in 15 minutes.
