The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'The mansion-house of Thurston, the residence of Richard Hunter, Esq., is situated in the parish of Innerwick, on the right bank of Dryburn Water, at an elevation of 320 feet above the level of the sea, from which it is distant about two miles. The adjoining park and plantations attain a considerably higher altitude, extending in a southerly direction towards a spur of the Lammermoors, and commanding a fine view of the German Ocean beyond St Abb's Head and the eastern shores of Fife. The peculiar characteristic of the demesne consists in the entire absence of artificial embellishment - its great charm being derived from the natural beauties of the locality.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
Thurston Manor was demolished in 1952-1953.
