The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Smeaton Hepburn, the residence of Sir Thomas Buchan Hepburn, Bart., is situated in the parish of Prestonkirk, East Lothian. It was built in 1790 by Sir George B. Hepburn, the first baronet, when the old house, which stood some 200 yards to the north of the present mansion, was removed.'

Smeaton Hall was demolished c1950.
