The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the residence of T. Macknight Crawfurd, Esq. Of Cartsburn, is situated on the rising ground not far from the Firth of Forth, in the parish of Cramond, about four miles west of Edinburgh. It is close to the village of Muttonhole, now called Davidson's Mains. From its elevated situation it commands an extensive prospect of the Firth of Forth and the coast of Fife.'
