The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This elegant mansion, the residence of Sir Basil Francis Hall, Bart., is situated in the parish of Oldhamstocks, in the county of Oldhamstocks, in the county of Haddington, about six miles from Dunbar. It stands on the west side of a small river that divides East Lothian from Berwickshire. It was built on the site of an ancient castle, which was originally one of the strongholds of the Earls of Home. It was principally designed by Mr Richard Crichton, architect, Edinburgh, who was greatly assisted by the taste and judgement of the then proprietor, Sir James Hall, who was himself the author of a work on the origin, history, and principles of Gothic Architecture.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection, Central Library, Edinburgh.
Dunglass is now an Events and Accommodation venue.
