The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This fine residence of Lady Mary Nisbet Hamilton is situated near the village of Dirleton, about eight miles from the county town of Haddington, and about two miles from North Berwick. It is a handsome and commodious square house, with two wings, and was built about the end of the seventeenth century by William Nisbet of Dirleton.
The gardens are situated at Dirleton. They are beautifully laid out, and are second to none in the kingdom. They are most liberally thrown open to the public one day a week. There are also in the vicinity many fine specimens of the evergreen oak and other trees'

Archerfield is now a business providing luxury accommodation in the house itself and several outbuildings.
