A statue of David Livingstone, the explorer and missionary, stands in Princes Street Gardens, a short distance east of the Scott Monument. The statue is by Amelia Robertson Paton Hill, the wife of the photographer David Octavius Hill, and was shown at the Royal Academy in 1869. David Livingstone died in the country now known as Zambia in 1873.
