Description
A full-length portrait photograph of a young boy named Alfred Reid. He is standing beside a jardiniere decorated with two cherubs at the base and an urn on the top, and in front of a painted backdrop. He has his legs crossed as he leans on the garden ornament. He wears a light coloured suit and holds a bowler hat at his side.

Photographic portrait of Alfred Reid taken for Mrs Salmond of 5 North Charlotte Street, Edinburgh. The address belonged to John Salmond, of John Salmond & co, grocers & wine merchants. Mr Doull also took a portrait of Walter Reid who is probably Alfred's brother.
David Doull was a professional photographer at 72 Lauriston Place from 1865 - 1867. He was born in Edinburgh in 1831 and was one of the founder members of the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1861. In 1970 Edinburgh Public Libraries purchased Mr Doull's collection of 319 glass negatives from Mr Frank Seymour, one in a chain of successors to Mr Doull's shop at Lauriston Place.
