Description
A double image of the view up Johnston Terrace to the Lawnmarket, Edinburgh. A horse and cart with two passengers travels up the broad expanse of Johnston Terrace. Children are playing at the side of the road beside a handcart. St Columba's Church can be seen on the right hand side. Bow Head House with its sloping roof stands on the corner of the Lawnmarket opposite the tall lands or tenements. Washing can be seen hanging out of many of the tenement windows.

This is a glass negative from the Thomas Begbie Cavaye Collection which is held by City of Edinburgh Museums and Galleries.
Lawnmarket is the section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile running from its junction with Johnston Terrace to where it meets George IV Bridge. Regular markets were held in this area until the late 18th century.
