Originally a separate village, Slateford is now part of Edinburgh. It is situated in the south-west of the city, adjacent to Gorgie to the north and Craiglockhart to the east. The Union Canal crosses the Water of Leith in Slateford, carried by an impressive nineteenth century aqueduct designed by Hugh Baird.
