Somerville, Daniel
Biography
Daniel Somerville was born in Dalkeith around 1780. He worked in watercolour and pencil and was also an engraver and etcher. His output mostly consisted of topographical studies and book illustrations. In 1817 he published '16 Original Sketches of Edinburgh' and in 1826 '30 Drawings'. He experimented with engraving techniques and was an early innovator in the field of lithography. He became an associate of the Royal Institute in 1833. He died in 1834.
