This image has been chosen for the Edinburgh - Past and Present Exhibition by Aileen Patterson, Artist and Author - "What a STAR! Here he is so small, so delicate, already gathering experiences for 'A Child's Garden of Verses'. His adult imagination was no doubt fired by his home city, and tales told by his beloved nurse, Cummy. One of my heroes. 'Kidnapped' my childhood favourite" Aileen Paterson.
Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edinburgh in 1850. He studied law at Edinburgh University and became an advocate in 1875. He went on to write several popular novels including 'Treasure Island'(1883) and 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde' (1886). He died in 1894. See more of Aileen's choices here.
