Description
Under a dramatic sky two teams of Clydesdale horses are harvesting corn or oats at Craigcrook Farm near Blackhall, Edinburgh. They are being followed by a group of men in flat caps who are gathering the sheaves into stooks. A bank of trees can be seen in the background.

The crop is being cut by 2 binders, each with a twae-horse yoke (ie 2-horse team) of Clydesdale horses. The cut crop is thrown off the binders already bound into shaefs or sheaves. The men in the centre and left are gathering them into stooks, where they dry and ripen further, before being led or taken into the stackyard near the steadings (ie farm buildings) where they will be built into rucks or corn stacks.
Blackhall is a residential district in the north-west of Edinburgh. It is situated roughly two miles from the city centre, a short distance to the east of Costorphine Hill.
