Description
The work is a cibachrome print. The busy and lively scene shows a number of images layered upon one another. Almost like a magic eye picture the work reveals different objects with each look. In the foreground there are various objects such as; a shell, action figure, plastic tiger and deer antlers. They lie before open curtains almost like relics upon an altar. In the background red velvet curtains are pulled back to reveal the image of a sitting girl layered underneath the jigsaw pieces of two white stallions. Various parts of the picture are illuminated in a yellow glow which adds to the theatrical appearance of the work.

Taken from a series of photomontage prints on the theme of the seven deadly sins, these images are built up through the use of layers of miniature and artificial props, evoking a seductive and distorted vision through the exaggerated use of colour and scale. Within this manipulated and surreal space the artist aims to construct a dialogue with the viewer. The series was inspired by a visit the artist made to the Prado, the world famous museum in Madrid. There Colvin saw a painting with the same title by early Netherlandish artist Hieronymus Bosch. c Calum Colvin
